Sydney Opera House - Visitors Information Centre

Invited competition entry for a ticketing solution (stage 1) and visitor information centre (stage 2) for Sydney Opera House.

The Sydney Opera House invited five Australian firms to submit ideas. Our approach was to consider an addition to SOH as an opportunity to get closer to Utzon. We removed what was unnecessary from the forecourt; the steps, bins, flag poles, escalator, light poles & bollards so the relationship between visitor and House was pure and direct. In this cleared landscape a series of simple incisions rationalise these things and new ticketing structures are introduced. They are fine, ribbed, copper and bronze structures that sit like items of furniture playing counterpoint to the heavy platform and soaring clouds of the House.

Stage 2 inserts a new visitors centre underground, a circular courtyard cut the only clue that
